Spacers are now fitted to the g/box plates and the amount the too short bolts have to be stretched has been established. The g/box is now back in the frame but an overfilled box of bits sits on the bench.

A new adjuster is nearly done and an ignition system is en route from NZ. Gone for a crank triggered twin plug system so I will be needing some holes in my head.

I had an interesting chat with a chap with a twin plugged  A65 outfit at Snetterton last year and he reckoned it was worth doing. Any motor that can propel a pair of lunatics and their chariot at race speeds should make a fine road bike engine.

I purchased a t/bolt head to practice on but it was too nice to ruin so bought another rougher one to sacrifce to help me make a jig.

It's great to show how much work goes into these type of modifications. I was very shaky when I modified my twin carb head, it was the only one I had.

Give it alot of thought, do as much research as you can and get a second opinion, then go for it . Most mistakes can be sorted or blamed on someone else.

Having to start somewhere I made a hole and it's a tad close to the seat insert . Next I need to get too close to the valve gear and the ideal spot will be somewhere between the two.

The tube in the pics was just a piece lying around and is too big a diameter and too thin. Some  thicker walled stuff is on its way and will be wasted where clearance is required and given a bit more meat in the areas to be welded to keep Tim happy. I'll insist he does it with the pushrods and rockers in place for a challange though.

Another plug spanner has been turned down  to give me the minimum size of id for the tube.

Lookin' good mate. A lot easier to do on an old Trumpy head. Are you using C (10mm) or B (12mm) plugs?

Hi,
It might be worth searching out plugs that have extra small hexagons ??
Some modern plugs also hav long threaded sections that may help???

I'll be using 10 mm plugs. 5/8 [ 16mm] a/f so should be able to get the plug and spanner in a 20 mm hole.

Got the Pazon and very nice it is too .Experience soured by the bank being utterly useless and unhelpful and it got from NZ to the depot faster than the depot could get a letter to me { to be fair it must have been hard to find a sherpa willing to climb the icy peaks and treacherous gorges of the 30 odd miles of fen between us. ]

Seems like we pay more and more for less and less service these days.

Drilled and tapped another practice plug hole and shaved a bit more off the plug spanner. Will have a go on the other head soon.

Sorry to tell you this but in the last picture you are definitely putting that spark plug in wrong!

More useful holes in my head--the good spare one this time. Jig seems to work ok so will have a go at the lightning head tomorrow.

The tube is still a bit too chunky so more relieving to do.

Half way through making another coils mounting bracket.

G'day danmar.
I often wondered about twin plugs but never researched it. Having two flame fronts meeting would give the same affect as pinging wouldn't it? But then it must work as it's used on a lot of drag bikes.
Now I'll hit Google.

I continue to be impressed by the highly skilled machining and very clever ideas. One of these days I'm going to figure out what you're making and, I think, so are you.  *smile*  ;) *respect*

Hi there,

I,m interested in this, particularly - because it is the first "crossover" thread that I can remember. I am interested in A65 - as a possible "next stage" for Jay. He's done well with his Bantam D3 (hopped up) but there will be some limitations. I know of a A65 project we could acquire  There seem to be more around than A7/A10s.

I did read of a, perhaps, more common hybrid - A10 crank in an A65, making a 750. The trouble with A65 is they lack such a brilliant forum as this...

Scott/Jay,
you might like to start a fresh thread on the offtopic and diverse rather than take the the A1065 onto this path. But I'm sure we'll respond if you do...
The unit beesa twins are fine machines.
And while we're briefly off topic my humble A10 (no A65 parts excepting A70/T140 rods) will be at Taupo for rides on this Saturday for the  sidecar HAGD between 10am and 2pm
