 Was hoping to have this done by now but had a couple of set backs.

 I bought a timing side bearing and new b/e shells over a year ago and put them in the box of bits without checking. I fished them out for assembly and discovered I'd been sent an A65 bearing [bigger],so had to order the right one.

 The dastardly attempt to sabotage me has failed as I will fit the other bearing to a set of Firebird cases I have.

  The shells are for carrillo rods  so waiting to hear back  from Nre  about some that will fit.

 On a more positive note I reconnected the oprv to the rest of the lubrication system . This meant taking a rasp to that fillet with the sump oilway to get clearance for a drill.

 This is a bit awkward as the hole is started on a curving surface and the chuck gets close to the above mentioned fillet. The four inch centre drill was useful once a perpendicular surface had been machined.

 Phoned the helpful folks at Thunder eng at  eleven oclock yesterday, and today a little over 24hrs later a pair of shiny new rods arrived. Looks like these will fit the shells so its go again.

 Almost seems a shame to hide them inside the motor. They are blinging up the desktop at the moment.

 Might even be done before xmas Muskrat.

 Rods on the crank and another trial to check the new rods miss everything in the cases and clear the barrel.

 Since the pics the sump pickup, cam and case studs are in so will probably assemble tomorrow.

 Cases are finally together and all turns smooth.

 Barrel goes on nice with a wiggle and clout from heel of hand with a satisfying clang as it mates with the cases. Finnest theeler won't go under anywhere.

 The barrel will have to come off again as previous trial build was done with different rods and I have to verify the clearances with the new ones.

Getting excited now- never thought it would get this far.

G'day danma, it's been just over a year since you first posted on this topic. Man you have done some incredible work. it's a wonder you have any hair left with the amount of head scratching  . I'm almost as excited as you for the final build. With all this motor work, have you got a roller (frame & wheels) to throw it in?

 Has been a bit challenging at times Musky but still moving foreward.

 Barrel is now nailed on ,just had to take a tad off one flange nut.

 It's a joy to fit ,shove the pistons in up to the pins with it upside down on the bench, then hold with one hand as you push the pins in.

 Sump is also on but needs wiring and the timing case is on to stop the spiders moving in .

 The A65 head is being cleaned so I dug out the A10 head  for a pic.

 Wimped out on the freezing shed.

  Relocated production to the bedroom    near the radiator and comfy chair.

 Had to tidy the desk top and found somebody has been leaving beer bottle tops everywhere.

 Some tab washers should arrive tomorrow so the timing cases can be fitted.

 Head has some plasticene in it for checking, but if no more material needs removing it can be finally cleaned and assembled.

 It only moved in the house 24 hrs ago and already the bathroom shelf is cluttered up.

 Timing cases, filter/breather and generator now all on.

 Looking at the head I need to grind a touch more off the ex rockers and get some spark plugs to check the fit.

 Due to my excessive length I've got a bit of trouble with my nuts. Some nice thick washers arrived today so I can see exactly how far short the outside head studs are.

 If the front ones are used in the back  should only have to make two new ones.

 As it will soon be christmas  an update;

 Two new longer  head studs made.

 The head washers that fit under the socket caps in the rockerbox required a chamfer to clear the radius under the cap head.

 Some phosphor bronze spacers  to go under the spark plugs. Simply not on to have one's electrodes in disarray.

 The ally valve top collars put the inner spring too close to bind at full lift. The std ones that came with the head are fine ,but lacking a full set of collets.

 A few collets later from various suppliers still had none that looked like and fitted like the originals.  So purchased  a late t bolt head with a couple of valves off ebay.
 
 A collar and collets were identical to the originals and fit a treat. Most expensive collets ever ,but free head included.

 The fruit bowl thing is now on and the socket caps drilled and wired.

 Gaskets on the inlet manifolds and socket caps also wired.

 Since the pics the front pulley is also on.
