Hi,

I need to take the engine out of the frame of my A10 Golden Flash from 1960, so that it can be professional rebuild.

Is it possible to take out the engine and leave the gearbox in the frame?

Will I need any special tools to take the engine out of the frame? Extractors and so on?

Best regards,

Frederik, Denmark.

Næ det er bare at løsne motorbeslag mv.   ;)

Rocker box and cylinder head off. Remove primary Chain chase (inner and outer).
Remove engine bolts etc.

The gear box can stay in the frame...

Send pm if you want more advice. I have two A10: A GF and a SR...
Boath are rebuild "nuts and bolts"

If you're having rebuilt by someone else, it may come back complete, so handy if you can remove it complete which I'm sure can be done- don't think you even need to pull even the rockerbox off, just the more you strip off makes it lighter ...in addition to primary stuff, you'll need to remove the engine plates, but to remove the front R/h dynamo plate, first have to remove the timing cover and dynamo :P.  Rear plates maybe only one need to go, but may as  well do both and make it easier(just remember which way they go, but is fairly self explanatory *conf*)
   Good Luck

Yes, so you need the centre extractor to suit, 4 or 6 spring clutch?

i got my super rocket engine out without removing the the primary chaincase inner. i did have the head off and did have the clutch basket out, tho I could not get the clutch centre out so just undid the bolts holding the chaincase to the engine and wobbled the engine out. it was easy. chances are you could do it with the head on tho i didn't try that.

good luck

I also got my SR engine out without removing the primary chaincase inner.  I wanted to leave the gearbox in place because I have the enclosed final drive chain and it's pain to put back together.  I also had the head AND rocker box on the engine.  I got it in and out with less trouble than I thought.

It does come out as a complete unit but obviously the chaincase needs to come off to remove the cush drive and its a lot easier if you take the timing case off and remove the dynamo and front engine plates. Once they are off it comes out quite easily. The clutch can stay on and the inner chaincase can stay on.
