Cam followers
« on: 01.10. 2015 21:59 »
 Guys,

I am trying to order cam followers for an 1958 flash. One place I am speaking to claims the exhaust followers should be flat, the intake has a radious.

The followers I took out, I fully believe are original, were both profiled.

SRM has a great picture of their followers, and both are profiled.

So which is correct? Both profiled or only the intake?

Thanks Trev,

I had a feeling they were trying to sell manure for good money.

Could they just have been referring ambiguously to the shape of the 'vertical' surfaces of the things, rather than the bits that sit on the cam lobes? IIRC the outer ones are rounded one side and ther inner ones slab-sided?

cam followers are made from manure? that explains why they wear out so quick.
radiused. flat and 3penny bit shapes . they all go to the bench grinder then back into the lump.

I guess that's possible, but they also say "modified and fitted", with intake rounded and exhaust flat. I would fully expect them to actually fit into the block itself. My only concerns are if you are modifying a part, it probably was not made for the application in the first place, and then the " rounded and flat" question.

I think I will just spend the extra 70+ pounds and get them from SRM. I will feel better about the whole thing.
