6 Volt USB Charger
« on: 31.10. 2015 14:50 »
 Hope this is in the right section..?? maybe should've put it in chitchat?

Had a bit of PM interaction with Angus re; USB charging he bough one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-USB-Output-DC-Converter-6V-12V-24V-35V-to-5V-3A-Step-Down-Module-iPad-/261421509248?hash=item3cddefaa80.

 I messaged them re sending to Oz, but they wanted to do an "off-ebay " transaction and didn't give a price, sounded dodgy so I had a hunt for alternatives, and found this one;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-Buck-sent-down-Converter-6-24V-12V-24V-to-5V-3A-CAR-USB-Charger-Module-/281588476204?
.....
 So i bought two...and they work fine, 3A they say, and even charges an eyephone....so I thought I'd buy another couple of spares, and then found identical item even cheaper- US 0.99c each, so bought ten to scatter around, or pack in a module;

Glad to hear its working Dutch, mine is still not fitted bought a too small enclosure to put it in and then carried on riding plus getting my daughter off on her trip (she has just arrived in Sydney). What sort of box/enclosure did you get and I assume you put it in the tool box. Also have you found if it need isolating when left as I had a concern about it running the battery down even without anything being charged as they say the charging plugs use power even when not being used.

 Haha settle down- it's not fitted anywhere except in a little container that some ear plugs came in: I soldered on some wires(fiddly as), with connectors so I can use it, but that's as far as it's got. Knowing me I'll just whack it up some heat shrink and improvise for a while *smile*, It's not like something that'll be in constant use, just an emergency kinda thing

Dam Dutch, I thought for a  bit you had done all the work for me. I plan to use mine to keep the phone/satnav charged. I have got a waterproof mount on the handlebars and have started planning routes online (trying longer distances) and then using this to follow them. It works well but runs the phone/satnav down, so that has become the limiting factor on distance.
