Hi All,
Ken has been in contact with me off forum regarding his Flash,
The crank that was in it was a small bearing one,
When did the A10 cranks change from small to "heavy" to large journal  *????*

With some luck I hope the spare LJ crank and rods I have will wind up in Kens cases
I want to check the crank out thoroughly and also crack test it, ( I have a contact with the testing gear)

John
Thanks a million john for all your help and knowledge shared so far.
You make a daunting process seem not so bad after all.
Hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel .😊😊😊😊
Regards
Ken

Looks nice Ken, well worth saving, I like those Ariel brakes.

Your troubles are not unusual, no disrespect to the machines but many have had a hard life or been poorly maintained / done up by previous owners.

I joined on here after a similar purchase knowing very little about the bikes apart from the fact I loved the idea of owning one...I've been through the gear box, primary drive and top end now over about three years oh and most of the cycle parts... in fact pretty much everything apart from the bottom end which is unusual fingers crossed.

You will learn a lot tho and there is huge amounts of information and encouragement to be found on here so welcome and get those sleeves rolled up!

Hi Trev and All,
Unfortuntely The sj crank in Kens bike was on -040 and flogged out at that.
I think the easiest solution is to use the spare crank that's newly ground and a custom main bush, the old bush has lost its interference fit in the case

John, the LJ crank was introduced for the early DA10 engines.
SJ cranks are OK, I am running one in my 55 Flash.

I second that assertion. the crank in mine is SJ as well and the only area (bottom end) I haven't had to mess with...so far...!

I think that's because someone who knew what they were doing got the job whereas the rest was cobbled together by the PO with old, worn out and sometimes incorrect parts to replace the old, worn out parts *smile*

The tank is correct for 1957.
The horn is on the wrong side but it is a beauty.
blimey! Every day is a school day. I'd always assumed most models had round, piled arms badges by 57.

  • Last had an A10 in 1976, in 2011 it was time for my 2nd one. It was the project from HELL (but I learned a lot....)

Here’s my 56 with those badges, I would like a new “Indian” made tank but last time I looked this type was not being made.
