I don't know how this got into the Electric start thread.

Nothing else puts a shine on Alloy better than Meguiar's. Maybe expensive but I'm still on my first tub after 2 years of polishing my A10.   

Is this stuff better than Solvol Autosol?

in a word yes
a little proviso in Solvols defence is that it is not the same as it used to be. if I recall correctly (big if) the tube is different and the spelling too and quite possible the stuff inside (if I sound like an old fart complaining it's because I#m an old fart ......)

Absolutely right bill, They took the Solvol of the box and all the good stuff out of the tube.

Just remember a wax is not a polish and a polish is not a wax
Autosol is a polish , it works by grinding of the oxide coating with particles finner than you can see.
Maguars is wax bases so it fills up the tiny scratches finner than the eye see.

Well that is an unexpected plus from storing the A7 for 25 year. I have a supply of original 'good maintenance products first the Duckhams Chainguard and now a tube of Solvo Autosol. Just a question I assume the Meguiar's is abrasive so should it be used on chrome regularly.

I would use Meguiar's very sparingly on chrome. As it states on the tub Meguirar's is a metal polish and not a wax therefore it is abrasive. It does contain anti corrosive agents. I always use the polish on my A10 Aluminium casings and it does what it says on the tub, a mirror finish. Then I apply wax as a top coat protection.

Personally I try to never use an abrasive on chrome, I've read Chrome is like a clearcoat on top of Nichol, it's transparent, it's hard and also porous so you don't want to take any of it off, so a wax gives it shine and penetrates into it giving waterproofing and protection

used all the metal polish brands only one i will ever use now is MAAS buy on line invented by an american woman who was fed up with her silver copper ect tarnishing soon after polishing polished alloy keeps its shine for weeks  its as smooth as face cream to apply the results are amazing not to be used on your face??

I have a tube of the as well (it's the pink stuff). in fact I'm  bit of a collector, Peek also and I'd guess another three
(expecting the usual comments re polishing v riding )

I've tried most of the products named here, and although they all get the job done, the very best I've found is a product called "Flitz" The aluminium comes up like chrome.
p.s. it's not cheap.
