Horn Position
« on: 03.01. 2017 14:56 »
Could anyone please tell me where the horn would have been originally mounted on my 1961 A10 GF? In some pictures, I've seen it mounted on the LHS of the dynamo but, in other pictures, it's difficult to see where the horn has been mounted.

It is mounted on the bottom yoke, concealed in the headlight nacelle. The horns mounted on the frame are often the earlier, very heavy, Altette type. Yours is a small, lightweight horn, very similar to modern Japanese horns. Your bottom yoke should have two 1/4" BSCY threaded holes to accommodate the mounting bracket. Somebody will chime in with the actual Lucas part number for the horn (not sure if it's 6H?, I'm away from my reference material at the moment).

Many thanks beezermacc. It sounds as though I've probably got the correct horn for this model of A10 although I'd assumed it was a modern equivalent. The Parts Book lists 2 horns but unfortunately doesn't give any clue as to where they are supposed to go and only provides a drawing of the Altette type horn. I started this particular project quite a while ago (several years) and so am struggling to remember how it was originally set up in some areas.

The horn used was an HF1441 from 1958 and was changed to the 8H 1962ish.

Guys.

Many thanks for the additional information. I clearly haven't got the original horn for my A10 and have a more modern replacement instead. From a previous thread, the picture below shows the proper horn and its mounting bracket.

I would have thought the horn shown is the wrong way round - if it was pointing backwards then more sound is likely to escape from the back of the headlight?

I think I might have one of those horns kicking around somewhere if anyone wants it?
