G'day Stev,  *welcome*.
Nice pick up mate. As you say a little paint, chrome and a wiring tidy up , you got yourself a ripper. Is this your 1st BSA?
My 51 A7 (with a few mods) is my favourite for 36 years.

Thanks for that, I dont actually get the bike until early February, but it  has been checked over, I note the loose wiring. Its been in storage since 1997 and just started from time to time. Owned by a BSA enthusiast.
Just restored a C11(well most of it) and a C10 is well underway, but this is the bike I want.

Thanks for the welcome, I hadnt even looked at the handle, may work better that side for some people. I know there will be a bit to do, but it was checked over by someone who has been around these bikes for some time and ticked all the right boxes. It was to far away for me to look at.

Bike has arrived, runs great  frame number ZA7S 21665 and engine AA75 313  HC, which appears to confirm 1951 imported from UK in 1975, the NZ ownership papers have an actual manufacture date of 9th Feb 1951, . Is there a difference between the A7 and A7S and does the HC mean High compression.

G'day Steve.
You have a 1951 A7 Star Twin (the sports model). HC is high compression (7.5:1). It should have the 356 camshaft. The engine # is AA7S-. The S in the frame # means it's a sprung rear end (plunger)

Hi liking the bike and loving that quilted seat, looks very plush sort of like a rich expensive leather chesterfield sofa. Am I seeing things or has it got lifting handles on both sides ?

Thanks for that, just working through the normal things that happen to a bike that hasnt reaal been ridden for a bout 25 yrs, petrol leaks etc. The stand is on the wrong side and welded on must have bee a long time ago as its been brazed, angle is wrong and any slight forward movement will tip it. So it will be coming off. The seat is as comfortable as it looks. *smiley4*

Had it for a run today, probably only some clutch adjustment, some wiring and its flying, there are lifting handles on both sides.

there are lifting handles on both sides.
Come in handy draging it out of a bog DAMHIK.
Sweet clutch in the plungers. Dial in the pressure plate lift.

Bike is really starting to progress, new clutch, rewired,  carb  has new kit,  a lot of other time consuming stuff that comes with a bike thats been stored for 25 years, I have seen receipts for complete mag overhaul, cable was jammed but have it working, the points are set correctly and everything in there looks great , the question is is there a spring to return the cable, if so its not there and are they available,
