  I HAD WRITTEN A LONG STORY ABOUT MY STANDS WHICH BOTH COLLAPSED WITHIN MINUTES OF EACH OTHER BUT HAVING PRESSED THE THE SAD2 BUTTON IT DELETED THE LOT AND I AM NOT GOING THROUGH IT AGAIN LETS JUST SAY THE CENTRE STAND IS A WARRANTY ISSUE SO I WILL NOT NAME THE COMPANY UNTILL IT HAS BEEN RESOLVED BUT WHAT I WANTED TO SAY IS I AM ABSOLUTELY P###ED OFF PAYING GOOD MONEY FOR INFERIOR CRAP FROM WELL KNOWN AND I THOUGHT RESPECTED COMPANIES THE QUALITY OF NEW PARTS MADE TODAY IS ABISSMAL SO MUCH SO I AM THINKING OF GIVING IT ALL UP CHRIS

   that's sad, understand your irritation. I hope it did not drop the bike. Let the supplier get the message, and maybe post a pic of the offending parts so as to warn others. btw, I have some expensive new parts lying around here and there, defective or misfitting, and never even got around to returning them. Double irritating.

(the reason your post disappeared is due to this forum having an auto-delete function that senses when contents are written under the influence of strong anger and aggression... Only jokin'. A good tip when writing long stuff in emails or forums is to now and then copy the whole text to the clipboard, so as to be able to paste back a recent version in case something happens)

            sorry to see you`re selling your bike!  I was going to sell mine a couple of years ago, i dragged it out of the shed and cleaned it ready to sell, then realised i couldn`t do it! It turned out to be the right decision not to sell it.

Unfortunately Chris this is part of owning a bike that is 40 plus years old etc etc. Try not to let it bother you too much though, and definitely dont give up. Sure you will have times when things go wrong but there will also be lots of good times when your riding along on a nice day or having a drink with a few friends and talking about your pride and joy. The good times will outweigh the bad.

Pattern parts are a problem though and I try if at all possible to find original parts even if they need extensive repairs. Spend some time browsing the internet and keep an eye out at swaps for bits that you think may be usefull. If you do buy pattern parts inspect them very closely, sometimes you can bring them up to a reasonable standard with a bit of work. If they are obviously junk then take them back or throw then away. Most reputable dealers will try and resolve any issues you may have and if they wont, dont deal with them again. It is a bit hard for them as well, they are trying to supply their customers with parts that can be very difficult to obtain and sometimes even the best dealers will get some sub standard parts.

Hi, Chris I agree with looking for original parts then restoring them much better option. As for your problems with stands pattern ones are cast in  CAST IRON which is not suitable for this application, also there are pattern footrests that are cast in the same way for instance BSA WM20 models with the flat iron footpad. can you imagine if one of these broke while you were riding  . As for well known suppliers there is mention on this forum of a well known BSA specialist (they do a lot of engine work) I also know of problems with their oil pumps from several owners. Dont sell your bike you will regret it.  I have just got my A10 plunger up and running again after a few months of using my old sidevalves singles and am enjoying every minute riding it. G/F DAVE

hi dave i have put it on ebay i have decided that apart from my disgust with the current day suppliers of parts my health is another problem and there are not any parts available for me good or otherwise i will, probably regret it but this bike needs to be ridden not just admired chris

hi dave it is not just my temper it is my health as well back in the day i used to throw an A10 about like a push bike when the stand collapsed i had to get help to pick it up and the state of me after straining like that frightened the hell out of my wife chris

I saw your ad on eBay. Well written and obvioulsy an excellent machine with great parts and work. Yes, I hope you get the price you are looking for, however, I thought it was unfortunate that your ad happened to make eBay during what might be called "A10 Week." There sure were a lot listed, nevertheless, a careful reader should be able to discern between the quality in your bike and that of some others, if, indeed, they read that far.

Indeed I am also sad to see you parting with such a fine looking machine, but perhaps it is wise as they are powerful and heavy to handle and no good if you have health problems. Maybe a lighter bike would be a better idea? The 250cc C15s are always spoken well of or perhaps a later Enfield that so many guys seem to be riding now. Whatever, do hang around on the forum here as your valuable knowledge will be of value for new owners. Good Luck with your sale I'm sure it'll fetch a good price.
