Centre Stand
« on: 21.04. 2017 18:44 »
Should the holes in the centre stand lugs be perfectly round (½") or elongated with plenty of play (like mine are) ?

They are 1/2 inch round. They wear as do the edges on the  lugs on which the stand bears when bike raised.

The holes in the stand also wear.

Most are like that unless repaired.

Thanks Julian,
The holes in the stand are OK, I will have to bush the lugs on the frame back to ½".

I repaired mine  with a length of 1 inch mild steel bar, bored 1/2 inch through centre, and welded between the stand lugs on frame.

Pivot used is a 1/2 inch stainless bar retained by 2 x  1/4 bsf screws fitted into the bar.

That way the frame does not wear.

I did something similar. The pivot pin is fixed to the stand and swivels in a couple of turned aluminium bushes. The bushes are held into place with a tube tight fitted between them. The pin is drilled for a grease nipple.

What are the O rings for ?

I'm barely strong enough to put mine on the main stand so it doesn't see to much action.

They just stop water getting in between the sleeve and the bushes. I turned a shallow chamfer on the ends of the sleeves and bushes so the O rings have a groove to settle in.

Hi All,
On my SR I welded in a tube after rebuilding the worn frame and stand lugs with weld in a similar way to Julian except *????*
I used the entire length of the tube as a bearing and locked the newly made pivot bolt with a nut to the stand
A grease nipple in the centre of the tube provides a lube point
The fix s still unworn after 15 years on the road *lol*

In the last few weeks I made some new frame lugs and frame reinforcing piece for my B series frame that uses the solid "gold star" type stand, I had to drill out the stand and make a sleeve to go through it
My RGS project frame will also need repairs to the centre stand and sidestand lugs  *work* *work*
