FWH front brake arms
« on: 02.06. 2017 11:43 »
Does anyone know the difference between 42-5854 (before frame FA7 5600) and 42-5886 (after frame 5600)?

These are both brake arms for the FWH front. The early one is for 58/59  and later is 1960 on.

Will they both work on a 58 bike, or are the mount squares all wonky? *conf*

The cams are the same for the hubs so the levers fit any of the full width iron hubs, the difference is the position of the square in the lever which was repositioned to give a better angle between cable and lever with change in the part.

Service sheet which introduced the change in July 1958 attached below.

The difference between 42 5882 and the 1960 on 42 5886 I do not know, but in the back of my mind I think one might have been flat and the other bent with a slight dog leg like the rear lever, only think not certain.

In the 1970 master spares price list shows entry for 42 5854 as "use 42 5886".
