« on: 06.08. 2017 17:16 »
Well I have decided to rebuild my E3L dynamo got it all apart but I need to know what the piece is that goes between the small bearing and commutator as this piece is totally destroyed,  cant find it in any pictures..could it be the oil seal?

Commutator then small spacer - photo top left - the stepped washer - photo at bottom - this holds a felt washer against the bearing to keep the grease off the commotator.

If you use a shielded small bearing then the felt washer and stepped washer are not needed.

Actually you need to fit the stepped washer to keep the bearing in the correct position for the retaining screw to bear on the bearing.
On the later armatures the same is true to position the bearing in relation to the circlip.
With the field coil, removing and replacing the pole screws can be difficult.

Get new Carbon brushes.
Cheap china copy can "grow" in size over time and get stuck.
Check if there is enough freeplay for the brushes in the holder.
Or better use of money: A/C Alton generator.

Aftermarket field coils can be a poor fit and need an expanding shoe to press them into place.
