Gearbox rebuild for the future

Asked this question in an earlier post but as Greybeard suggested it may be better posted separately.
I am intending to rebuild my gearbox, 51 A10 Plunger, but it will not go into service for a couple of years. Yes that's right, a couple of years. This is a long retirment project when I get aroung to retiring. My question is can I rebuild it now and put it on the shelf. What would I have to do to make sure it is still mickey mouse in a couple of years. Any thoughts?

My worry would be the seals taking a permanent distortion.

I recently had an issue with gaskets on my Plungie box. If I'd rebuilt the box years ago and then had problems that meant a fresh strip-down when I needed it I would not have been happy.

I think there's nothing against it to rebuild the box and loosely assemble it well oiled, minus sprocket seal and gaskets and storing it in a warm and dry place (next to the central heather for example)
Before finally installing the box it'll then be about an hours work re-oiling the innards and installing seal and gaskets.

Thanks Morris that sounds like a good plan and will eliminate the issue with gaskets that Greybeard had.

One of my swinging arm gearboxes was not used for 35 years and all I did was change the oil 

My plan was to try it and see if it was ok, that was 2 years ago and its still fine

Depends on your luck and if you have a garage which is reasonably warm most of the time I think
