Spline Repair
« on: 25.06. 2009 16:17 »
Does anyone know an engineering company who can repair the splines on an A10 crank ??

SRM are quoting six weeks for work at the moment, but they are the only ones I know of who can do a repair, maybe I should just get a replacement.

Regards

I was talking to Goffy about this last Sunday at Banbury as his and mine are both worn, Someone somewhere must be able to do this. Weather its simply a matter of welding along the spline and re machining I don't know. SRM definitely must do it and if they can... So can others. Question is how much would this procedure cost?

 Guys,

I might be very lucky in this, but the same shop that will grind my crank journals will also spray weld and fix splines- you might be best off talking to an automotive shop, or might even be best to talk to a shop that specialises in large diesel motors, like earth movers or semi-trucks. I know those earth moving equipment crankshafts cost an absolute fortune, and fixing any problem is much more common then replacement.

They may even enjoy working on a crank that doesn't require a very big hoist to move around, and give a good hearted BSA owner a price break!

SRM charge £93, I was going to take it there tomorrow but I dont want to wait f"*@^% six weeks before I can burn rubber....

I have asked at lots of UK gear makers, engineering shops etc, drawn a blank so far.
Its going to be a replacement I think.
