Went for a ride today

Went for a ride today in the snow (only joking!), no snow but it was 0 degrees C and I quickly remembered why in the 60s I wore a leather face mask when riding with an open face and goggles in the winter. The mask covered my face from my goggles down as it had a shaped nose and chin piece with a rectangular bib under the chin that extended about 12" and tucked inside my mc jacket. It usually kept my face snug, warm and dry, although lots of persistant rain on a  long journey could gradually find its way though it. Anybody remember them?

Also I remember rubber push on covers that would fit over the control levers.

I still have a leather face protector, although not as large as the one you describe.

Was out this week on the B31. Sub-zero, moonlit night. Quite delightful, quiet roads, no distractions. A modern full face helmet does make all the difference. In the days of my yoof, it was a C11G, no helmet, a scarf and goggles. Madness really but it didn't put me off.

I have a leather face mask that clips on to my Davida pudding – but even then you really want to be sitting behind a screen. I was out on my Loop on Saturday (70 mile round trip to Krazy Horse) and elected to wear my Shark flip-front. Still mighty cold out there – even with 12V and the hot grips flaring.

And yeah, I had those cable covers on my CD175 back then.

No, covers that went on the actual levers. See the ones on my Nutley Blue GF in photo. They were shaped for where your fingers were on the levers and were sold in different colours, mine were a good colour match to Nutley Blue so apart from being comfortable they looked smart.

I have been trying for ages to find some like on the Spitfire, no luck so far.

We've had some very pretty but cold days over the last month. The roads are still being salted so I haven't been out on my precious. This week the weather is predicted to be extremely cold with nasty weather coming in from Russia. Looking out of my window at the moment I can see flurries of snow!

No snow in Plymouth - yet! It's been sunny, windy and very cold here. Snow is forcast to reach the S West tomorrow and more on Wednesday and we all go into panic mode then .  It's the reason why I wanted to give my bike a spin - to keep the working parts oiled and free and I thought it may be wise to remove my new battery for a few days during the cold snap.
