Intro
« on: 14.04. 2018 23:21 »
Hello! Being the new owner of a 1963 Super Rocket, I decided to join the forum. Having read numerous posts, I think this is my best bet for solid advice throughout my rebuild and ownership. Sitting in rural Idaho, there aren't many local options. Think I figured out how to attach a picture, but it seems to be too big a file, Ill work on getting one posted somehow. Have a few questions Ill post eventually, brakes, fenders, but thats my intro, cheers!

RR,

Welcome to the forum. Great to have new blood as young as yourself (20 or so years younger than your namesake song) to carry on the appreciation of the A7/A10 marque. You haven't said where in rural Idaho, but if anywhere near Boise I think local help may be at hand. I think you should  look up jachenbach in the members list and drop him a PM. Maybe farther away than around the corner won't be a problem.

G'day RockyR welcome to the forum.
I have a friend who bought one of those NEW and still riding it so chances are you'll be riding yours into your 60's.
How did you become interested in the SR?
Cheers

Richard, I will take a look at the member list, not something I thought about doing. Anyone from the Boise area would be rather close, as I live about an hour west in Payette.

Graybeard, I thank you for the welcome!  *smile*

Growing up, my father restored a few vintage motorcycles while he also had a Harley, so I have always liked the culture and bikes. A family friend was trying to downsize his collection and the Super Rocket was offered. I agreed to buy it from him but fate thought otherwise and he was killed in a plane accident. In the end his widow called me and offered me the bike as-is, so I was really in the dark on where to start, what he had done, what was next, etc. Have A LOT of questions about the bike, and without the prior owner to ask, the forums seemed my best bet. Long story, but it was the roundabout way i come into my Super Rocket.

RR,

Unfortunate , the way you had to come by your bike, but fortunate that you came by it. Clearly you already respect your "A" and plan good things. You will enjoy the ride. I am confident that jachenbach will try to help, if he can. A single visit to evaluate the state of things and some advice as to where to start will go a long way (after a fairly short drive). (Jachenbach, apologies if  I seem to be overcommitting you, but I've gotten the impression you like to help others with their bikes.)

A hearty thanks to a10gf and bra-bill  ;)

Richard,I've been working on the bike over the last few months but have hit a few snags with my brakes and magneto. Brakes was really the pushing factor for joining the forums, but thats a story for another post. If everything goes close to my plans, I hope to have the bike for a long time to come.

Hi Rocky,
Welcome to the net's best forum. I'm actually in Mountain Home now, but still not far away by western US standards. I'm not the A10 expert many others on this group are, but I'm a pretty fair mechanic. Happy to help if I can, and not afraid to tell you "I don't know, but we'll figure it out". My own A10 is a magneto rebuild away from running, but I got distracted by a few other bikes so haven't yet finished it. Drop me a personal email if you want to get together.

Rocky,
just reread your intro post. I assume that was Gene's A10? He was planning to do an RGS clone (as I have been working on). I bought his Velocette Venom about 2 years ago. He was an extremely well-liked customer at Big Twin BMW, where I worked for about 8 years.

Jeff,
Sorry for the delay in reply, but yes, it was Gene’s A10. Close to hearing it fire I hope. Couldn’t find any life in the mag, so I’m looking to do an electric ignition. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!
