G'day Fellas.
I have a bit more room in the shed. Yesterday I sold the 1978 Yamaha XT/SR500. Sad to see her go but in the 4 years I've owned her I wouldn't have done more than 500 miles.
Cheers

Always fancied a big XT, love the lines of the originals.  Trouble is, I'd probably not get on it as much as it deserved with the GF and 'W' raring to go in the garage (also, no room).

Planning a 240m round trip to Stafford toward the end of next week.  Will have to decide which bike to go on nearer the time.  If I'm after an easy ride, it'll be the Kwaka, if I'm feeling a bit more adventurous - the GF.  The reason, my sister is over from Oz (without family this time), so it'll be a good opportunity to have a natter.  She's also coming over to see my mother (86 this year with a few health issues), so could be the last time she'll have the opportunity to see her in full form.

Hope all you lot are ok or better - take care and good riding as the weather improves *ex*

Musky you little devil  ;D today i put a new old stock so they say needle clip into betsy's carb and put her carb back on because i borrowed hers for what my mate now calls betsy 2 then fired up betsy 2 and looked at tiny bits of rust hanging about in the fuel lines, good job i made them into U bends. before i stopped the engine i gave her a little run down and up the horrible dusty bit of road near my garage--- the neighbours were non impressed with the noise while i set the carb so she ticks over nicely.  i decided to take the tank off and give it some more swilling out, i also found some notrun back brake bits and a longer brake arm so with a bit of lathering to make a sleeve to put on the brake rod and take some space up i fitted it. i did this because the angle of the different brake arm left lots of thread and i'm not chopping the rod until i know it works. i took the exhausts off looking for the needle clip and found nothing so god knows where that is. i took the back wheel out thinking i might get some different grade shoes and then saw i bought these shoes brand new *doh* brain forgot so maybe i need to bed them in a bit, you know get them HOT  *lol*.  thankyou for listening have a nice day , i have just opened the bar *beer*

i got urma the yonda out and she spun over but would not start then the battery died, i put a car battery on the floor and leads and she fired up straight away. i let the engine warm up then checked to see if she was charging yes 14 .5 v at 1100 rpm . i stopped her and went doing other things . i checked the battery and 12.84 v showed and pressed the button again and she was dead. after much head scratching and looking at these agm glass matt battery's on the interweb i found out that you need a special charger for these or the volts run away and a valve opens and sort of knakers the battery. i wondered why the volt meter hit 18v in seconds when i put it on charge last year and quickly turned it off. anyway i got the battery on the bench and put it on a 70 year old trickle charger and watched the volts creep up very slowly , nothing like as fast as the modern 6amp charger i had given me that now i know is for old fashioned battery's. well the volts on the old charger crept up to 15.5 after about 3 minuets so i took it off. THEN i saw the earth lead that was still on the battery had tarnished itself to death so i cleaned it up and tomorrow i will clean the earth on the frame and try again, i hope this works because my head was saying buy a new battery AND. a charger for these batteries because i have one on the berger build -- betsy 2 and it will come in handy. if it doesn't work i will buy a new battery and then scratch my head as to why nearly 13v won't punch the engine over unless these modern battery's are like my huawei p9 modern phone that says 89% battery power but really it's dead!!...huh modern technology made to make the money go round, thankyou for listening have a nice day i am now opening the bar for a well deserved slurp of black&tan, i will report back if it was a bad connection and i will also report back if it is the battery.  *beer*

G'day Bergs.
I have AGM's in the rHonda, Highly Dangerous and the A7 Plunger. All three will charge with a normal charger. It's the Lithium batteries that need a modern charger.

I was told that the AGMs need to have a modern charger, rather than the steam powered thing I've had for decades.  The lead/acids (wet cell) are ok with normal chargers, but AGMs and EFBs are a bit more delicate (even though still lead/acid).  Lithium and Gel are different again.  I have a charger with different settings, having to identify the type of battery and function required before using it.  These types of chargers are not expensive though, and are worth investing in IMO.

the AGM battery i put on a modern charger shown in pic had the battery running away in voltage very quickly in seconds up to 18v and would have gone on , i put the battery on the old charger and it slowly starts to increase the voltage and when it got to 15v i turned it off. i have read that AGM battery's need a charger that shoves amps in but keeps the voltage constant . don't ask me why i know nothing apart from what i've read and that is the little modern charger is not for gel ,AGM, or calcium battery's. this charger is only for 6 cell lead acid battery's.
