Original Sidestand profile

The sidestand on my 58 Super Rocket (American Export Model) was busted and very badly repaired and also very straight giving it a Harley styled look (hugely increasing the weight on the old mounting and resulting I believe in its ultimate failure). Ive had to make a new perch for it which I've carved out of a chunk of 3" round bar but it would be really helpful if someone had a picture of how the stand is supposed to look. Someone had chromed the original which I plan to stip off as I am planning to give this bike a more traditional English look so Id also be interested to hear if there was any difference in the home market and export machines and if this Western Style look was an original feature?

I checked out all the bikes in the 'just a picture' section and spotted two things. 1. The vast majority of pictures are of the timing side of the bikes and so dont show the sidestands and 2. Those that do show a huge range of different shapes and sizes of sidestand arm. My conclusion then is to get the bike back on its wheels and set up the thing so it works as this clearly isn't a point of standardization. I have attached a pic of my newmsidestand perch that I cout out of billet with an angle grinder.

You are pretty good with an angle grinder   

I did a similar but not so complex job to make up pillion footrest mounts, to replace those that had been removed off the frame hoops on my bike.

My bike does not have a side stand so can’t help with that.

With as many Indian motorcycles in the Cannonball event as there are, it shouldn't surprise you to come across American Indian place names in the prairie.

As I was driving the neighbourhood mad with the noise of the angle grinder I knew there would be someone with a tool box with a perfect spare mount in it. I did discover the joys of 1mm cutoff disks though. Man do they save time!

 Slymo, it's a job well done but might be worth taking note of that little 'nose' piece in Billy-B's pic as an extra gusset/bracing bit- should be easy enough to build up with weld and grind back with your skills

Yes that addtional piece is where the spring mount sits. Ive brazed a bit of 5/16" bar in there and it seems to over centre nicely now Ive put the spring on. I'm putting the bike back together slowly now and will braze the saddle in place once I can work out exactly where the stand should go.
