 OK,

 today we rip into this. I had mentioned in another thread that the rear brake position is causing me problems.  I have to lift me foot off the peg to use the break, not very good.

 I will find some part numbers or something and compare.

 One way or the other, something is getting heated and bent today.

The black one I had powder coated has a casting number 42-4348

 The rusty one has 42-7028.

 My bike is a 1958 SA flash.

 So they are both BSA.

Well that's good that you have part numbers. I'd not mess them up as they might even be rare parts, I certainly not seen this shape. An A10 brake pedal can't be that hard to find. Sell your one and possibly buy a replacement with money left over.

 I took the one that fit best, hit it with swap meet sure sell (cheap spray paint  ) and  I am going to use that one. I taped a 1/4 inch rubber spacer under the peg - not going to have to bend anything.

 I just made up a new cable and am mounting it now. And of course,  it's going to start raining before I get done.

 I kind of doubt there is anything rare here, badly bent up and abused by the chopper boys? Yes.

Forging number 42 4348, when machined finished is part 42 4347 which is for 1956/57 bikes with Ariel type full width hubs.

Forging number 42 4028, when machined finished is part 42 7027 which is for 1958/59 full width iron hubs.

I have the brake pedal from my disassembled '57 A7. I can check on it and show a picture when I get home this evening.

 I just sprayed it with really cheap paint, will have it coated this winter.

 It's a lot more comfortable on the bike, that's for sure.

 Richard, it would be great if you could check yours.

 I get the feeling BSA never really got it together when it came to foot tests and brake pedals on the A series.. They tried and tried though, that's why it's so confusing

Well, I'm surprised the pedals were different for the two types of full-width hubs. Maybe Julian (or someone) could explain why they should be.

My pedal is for a '57  A7 with Ariel hub. I don't know what the casting number is because it's apparently covered in powder coat. (There's a lot I didn't know about powder coat before I had it done. I knew about protecting holes and threads, but have a feeling there are surprises in store.)

Anyway, for photos (using my A10), I tried to position the pedal at the SA spindle hole, despite my LH rod pull pedal being sort'a in the way.  My A10 is registered '55, but has a '60 frame that I've modified for rod pull. All that said, here are the photos.
