I know it is old and was found in a workshop
 Had an idea that it could be some sort of soldier? Was hoping it may have a huge quantity of silver in it!
Fairly confident it not resin, very shiny on the freshly broken leg.

Zinc? White metal? Spelter, which may be the same thing as White metal.
Does the surface shine when abraded?

Is it hard or soft to file if it is soft then it could be pewter. Look it up in google.

Ahhh, I recognize this, it's a souvenir that people in villages around Chernobyl were manufacturing and selling.
It's made from remnants of the reactor core :O)

Berger what's opaline and can i sell it for loads a money?
Will run a file and give it a polish on friday. Will also cut a bit more off the leg and heat it with a torch and will post a picture of the result. Hey look ,i'm just amazed that i posted a picture, well chuffed. am a bit disappointed no-one's offered me £100 to take it off my hands.

yes it can be glass or stone ---- opalite/opaline is  man made but can be found at volcano's ---- googly it - . I understood it as glass but googly opens up other answers I think you can keep it for now jim
