Short wheel spindle

I had the front spindle on Josef’s A10 chromed and the platers etched it so that it became loose in the bearing. So when I saw another at Shepton today I snapped it up. Joy turned to frustration on fitment to the forks, as the tommy bar end disappeared into the fork leg - yes too short, its 8 1/2" and should be 9 1/8".

 What have I bought?

The 250cc C12 and the C25 and B44 of 1967 used a similar but shorter spindle due to the closer spacing of the fork shafts, so its probably from there.

Off topic, was also at Shepton today. Was looking for rear footpegs and was unsuccessful. Did find a brass pojnts plate,which was nice.
