Our California trip
« on: 21.07. 2019 12:40 »
Some years ago, I won an award for some software that I wrote in my own time that was adopted by my employer. With the money, my wife and I chose to tour California for a month. Here are the better photos that we took. We loved California. We hired a car for a month. I was hoping for a classic large gas guzzler but we were given a Ford Focus, just like the ones in the UK.

We did a fortnight tour there in 2000, your photos bringing back memories.
and we also had a Focus for seven years, most reliable and cheapest car to run we've ever had (discounting fuel consumption) 7 years, one set front brake linings and one set of wiper blades - that was it
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

Neil,

Thanks for adding this tour to my Sunday-morning-sitaround. I was born in the San Fernando Valley and spent my first 45 years there, neverthess, on your trip you managed to get to some iconic places I never did, Yosemite, for example. Now I have to think of Yosemite (and getting back to Big Sur) as bucket list items. Another thing your photos did is make me ask myself, "What was I thinking when I decided to move to Illinois?"

Among other places, glad to see you got to the Getty Museum. It's a very special place. Given that you drove from there to Wanrner Bros. Studios, you drove within one minute of my childhood home off of Coldwater Canyon and about a minute from my last Valley home in Burbank near the studios.

I'm super happy you guys enjoyed my photos.

Our approach to Yosemite was through a tunnel. As we exited into daylight, the view into Yosemite  valley was the most amazingly beautiful landscape I've ever seen; Bridal Veil Falls on the right and El Capitan massively rising up on the left, framing the valley. It was almost Disney-like in its beauty! I took a picture but nothing beats being there.

Great shots GB. Must've been a while ago, you still had colour in your hair. LOL.

Love the shots of the botanical gardens and trams of SF. Would go there just to spend some time with those.
