A great year!

At the beginning of this year, I was stuck with engine problems. I was depressed and worried that I was not going to be able to ride during this season. With help from this forum and Gary at SRM, I sorted my engine and since then I've had one of the best years riding since I restored the bike.

This summer I've ridden to the BSAOC Cheshire, Norfolk, South West Wales and Hampshire camps, plus I joined rides during the BSAOC International rally.

I was given stick for not staying the week at the international but I'm in the club to go on rides, not to sit around of an evening supping copious amounts of beer, trying to ignore the right-wing political views that men my age seem to have! If you don't know what I mean, ask a typical BSA owner what he thinks about BSA's being relaunched in India!

I've also ridden with the VMCC and gained a trophy!
Last week I attended the local VMCC Wrinklies Run, 70 miles through lovely countryside with a lunch stop halfway at a charming pub. Among the interesting machines on that run, there was an example of the rotary engine Norton, which was apparently designed as a police bike. There was also a rare OHC 600cc Ariel Square four from 1936.

Have to agree, I’ve had more fun this year than I can remember, my A10 gets ridden at least once a week (usually only a sneaky hour before work) and I’ve met loads of like minded people and am never short of someone to natter with over a brew at our local meets.
All of the niggles so far have been easy sorts with some great advice form you guys.
And it’s only August!

Same here, after some trouble getting my bike sorted and ready to ride and trust, I succeded.
Did a trip from Denmark to the BSA IR in Moreton in Marsh, via the Hook van Holland NL to Harwich UK ferry, and spent a week together with other BSA people. It was a rather wet week but I managed to drink a few beers, a few G&T, did not talk politics, did a lot of driving, some in groups, some alone in the beautifull Cotswolds, and also a trip to Armoury Road, to get the picture...
All in all a great trip, I don’t mind socialising in between driving 😉 and got the opportunity to meet people with the same passion from all over the world, and to see all kinds of BSA bikes. A nice round trip of app. 2500 km and the BSA didn’t let me down any time. But after having spent 2 weeks with wet feet ( found out my boots were not watertight!) it was nice to get home and get dry 😎

Glad you've had a really good year GB , for myself I've had the most messed up year possible ,every time I organised a ride out we seemed to have a family or friend emergency or it rained . If I've done 300 miles I'll be surprised . Finally managed a ride out last Sunday but was back after 30 miles ,I had sweat running down my forehead into my eyes it was so hot ,never experienced anything like it even with vents up and front face slightly  opened . My tee shirt went right into the wash ,soaked ,apart from that the ride out was good.

I'm really sorry you've not enjoyed the riding season so far. There is still time to get out before the salty season. Just a pootle around local roads can be very uplifting.

Topdad   my year has been terrible and you have got more miles in than me this year and all my buddies are brown bread so its just me . I think maybe four trips of not many miles at all. but as greybeard says the salt season isn't here for a while and with GLOBLE warming upon us we could be ok until january

Absolutely ,quite right GB  and Berger when we moved hse 9 yrs ago we were so busy I had to leave the bike at our old home ,we hadn't sold the house then for 3 mths I finally got her to her new Garage on 2 january ,what a glorious day it was ,really sunny .bit cold but really good also being back on the bike was the best !! Sorry about your mates ,i'm lucky still got 2 of the old gang
