What is it?

I captured this pic a few years ago off the net - can anyone tell me what it is or is it a custom build?

 It's a Longstroke A7, Rigid Frame, fitted with a custom leg warming high level exhaust. Single 276 carb, oilfeed to both rocker shafts. That's all from me, the purists can identify the month of manufacture. Can't remember if the front engine steadies were standard from the start or a later owner added mod. Tank also looks a custom job, possibly smaller than standard, later A10 badges (?)

Compare it to the standard machine - the tank is different and mounted higher - I've got a 250 Fleetstar tank that's the same shape, the tyres, exhaust and the oil tank looks bigger - it looks so much more butch.

It certainly looks good. The lower camera angle and good lighting help the impact. I notice it has the earlier tiny front brake. The smaller tank, with quick release filler cap, might be for the US market. Slightly chunkier tyres help 'butch' it up.

I presume the later model in the second picture has an automatic gearbox.

Looks that way, GB. Neither of bikes have any oil in them, and the original oldie has the later plunger type oil tank, hence the airgap to the rear guard.

 Nourish knows a lot about these early machines, he has been constructing a homespun rigid end and a trick engine for a good few years, so good luck to his endeavours. I thought the post about frame dimensions was familiar...it originally started in 2013.

Definitely a Super Flash tank with badges from a pre 67(?) side cover.  The original S/F badge was the same as a Golden Flash with a red background.

Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

duTch..My thoughts exactly, then I noticed the gear lever was missing and getting a liitle bit of insight into esteemed member GB's sense of humour, it all clicked. Mischievous or what?

 Looking at the two bikes a little closer, the timing covers differ. The custom bike timing cover has a flat bottom with the piled arm logo, the other cover is plain, with no piled arm logo but with the three bolt bottom, a later improvement.   My Longstroke basket case cover has 3 bolts and a logo, so there's one for the cognscenti to explain. Maybe the styling difference between a cheapo A7 and the more upmarket Star Twin.

 I commented they had no oil in them as there is no sign of an oil drip patch under either of them, a rare sight indeed in the real world.

Funny that. My "cheapo" A7 plunger runs rings around a mates ST.
Of course it has nothing to do with the 57 A7SS top end and 357 cam and electronic ignition and *****, *****, :-)
