Front Wheel Spindle

Just in the process of refitting my front wheel on my 1955 A7SS but I'm having difficulty getting the front wheel spindle to engage with the threads in the fork leg. I've loosened off the mudguard nuts and bolts and have the wheel spindle mounted just into the fork leg hole, so everything seems straight.

I've noticed that the threads inside the fork leg and on the spindle don't look as good as they could be, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what the thread size and pitch is so that I can get myself the correct tap and dye to improve the threads.

not turning it right hand are you? just a thought, plus make sure the spindle sleeve sits in the fork properly , it can be a bit awkward

Thread is 9/16 x 20TPI  cycle left hand.

Berger...thanks and I must confess, the LH thread had caught me out in the past, but not this time!

tommo903 me too as a teenager I made the spindle jump the threads and make banging noises , dad was on the lathe and asked what the hell I was doing, well it was a mistake I nearly made donky's  years later with the new longer spindle he made me. to be safe he even turned me a nut up to keep things secure. happy days
