Mgneto Fitting
« on: 25.04. 2020 12:57 »
Hi Everybody.

I am now fitting the magneto on my 58 A7 rebuild.  It's a recon K2F from Priory.  It gives a nice healthy spark when the shaft is spun by hand and everything is standard.  I am following all the Hayne's and Factory destruction sheets so at this point don't expect any problems.  But I do have some questions:-

Why is the right hand cylinder specified as the one to use for the timing operation?

Why should it matter which lead goes to which spark plug?

Does the magneto fire each spark plug at exactly the same time?

Regards,

Len

No both plugs dont fire at the same time. It doesn't matter which plug lead goes where or which cylinder you work with but to stop confusion work the way manual says. The magneto has two cams for the points.
You must time the magneto points opening with the cylinder that you want to fire at that time. This means you must have the correct plug lead connected to the correct cylinder. This cylinder will be at the correct degrees or measurement before TDC. So follow the manual and it will make sense.

Thanks for that.  All makes sense now.  There had to be something going on but I couldn't put my finger on it.  Why all the service data couldn't make such a simple statement is amazing!  Well done.
