Repop Swingarm fenders...
« on: 23.08. 2009 04:24 »
I heard some greybeards(older fellors) talking about reproduction fenders coming out of India. I know in the past some brit companys reproduced some fender but they where quit expensive.  I don't know of the quality but I have seen some popping up on ebay. For swingarm 53 on on BSA's. Even with the shipping not a bad price. I mention this because that is one thing I am shy on here fenders...have oil tanks, gas tanks, tools boxes...but seems like ever fender I have has been bobbed.
Cheers

 Pollock,

I hate to be the one who rocks the boat on these guys, but I am now pretty leery about some of their wares. I saw one of these ads on e-bay, I was looking at the tanks. I could get a chromed tank from him cheaper then I could get just the chrome redone on mine!

I always follow the feedback, got a hold of a guy who was not at all happy. He had ordered a tank, said it did not fit right (maybe the gap we have all discussed on another thread). But worse was the chrome- I guess at the bottom edge where the sharp bends begin the tank he got was beginning to peel before he ever got it out the box. I don't know all the mysteries of chroming, but this guy said it was missing a step from the process.

He did say that if the tank had fit correctly, the metal work was of a good standard and not beer can thin. So I am leery on the tanks (because of the chrome), but I believe I would give his fenders a shot. Worse comes to worst, you have to do some fixing. But at least you are not trying to fix someone else's bad welds and inch thick bondo jobs.

Thanks for the heads up. You know any repop fender I would rather see not drilled.  I don't know why they would drill them. I guess it is just the bolt-on society.
I guess it goes back to the old adage if it is too good to be true it probably is.

Bought a new mudguard from e-bay , made in England & triple chromed - was it hell , you could still smell the curry on it , 5/8" too wide , twisted & the wrong curvature .

Sent it back and got a pair from Autocycle , they are made on the original tooling that was used by the makers for BSA etc.

A pair was only slightly dearer than the Delhi/UK one .
