The frame of the a7 plunger is just about ready to be checked for straightness.
The gentleman who specialises in this black art suspends the frame off the steering head in some sort of jig. He requires the crankcases, gearbox and back wheel to be bolted in before he will touch it.
He has a reputation of modifying the paint work as well as the frame so its a good idea to do the painting after he's had a go at it.
It also seems like a good idea to have the back wheel built correctly before then.
Back to the back wheel,
Looking from behind, the back wheel is off centre towards the timing side by a couple of mill. The frame dimensions (off Beeza Bill's site) reckon the distance between the plunger rod centres should be 9 7/8".
Mine is 10". I'm wondering about whether the spacer (part no. 65-5884) inside the hub and under the bearing is necessary as it also prevents the bearing locking ring from winding in flush with the housing. Dispensing with this evil ring should narrow the whole show to where it should be.
There also seems to be a bit of room where the QD splines could be pushed closer together. Getting rid of the obnoxious thing would allow this to happen and cure the pain.
On the other hand, there are dozens of these things running around without any trouble. I ve probably put something in backwards??
