Hi all new to Forum and BSA A7 ownership.  Still awaiting arrival of bike which was purchased on line without actually seeing the bike in the flesh.  All very nerve raking.  Fingers crossed it is all as described.  I have admired A7 ever since going to the Isle of Man many years ago (1985),  I was watching at Ginger Hall, there were loads of bikes parked up with there owners either watching the race or in the bar.  A BSA A7 arrived and quietly parked up. It was by far the nicest bike there, it sounded just right and the proportions were just perfect.  I have hankered after one from that day, I even remember the number plate, it started MTJ.
The new bike should be here this afternoon.
Richard

G'day Ratchet, welcome to the addiction.

Ginger Hall was one of my favourite spots in 2015 when I was there (along with every other pub on the circuit).
I recon A7's are better (waiting for re-bucks), smoother and rev harder than A10's.
I hope all your hopes are realized and if not we're all here to help.
Cheers

Looking superb! but judging by the looks, you'll miss all of the greatest fun ...of having to dismantle everything, having parts spread all over the garage, shed and house for a year, spend a fortune on parts, special tools and machining shops, wife divorcing because you moved into the shed (and finding gearbox internals and oily rags on the kitchen table), make 2573 posts on forums trying to find solutions to unexplicable problems... *smile*

Welcome and, yes, it's beautiful, but contrary to A10GF's optimism, some of that is still coming. Hopefully, not the divorce. *eek* *smile* ;)

Thanks for the support.  I did think long and hard about buying an already restored bike or go for one needed some fettling.  I do have a BSA C12 that fits a10gf description other than still have my wife.  I need to check how many posts I have put on the C10, C11G C12 website but I don’t think I am up to the 3 thousands yet!  Also know that RichardL is going to be right. Some of the most simplest things can take you on unexpected adventures, like for instance the DZUS fastener on the tool box or the oil leaking from the speedo fitting in the gearbox. I am looking forward to enjoying the whole experience of A 7 ownership.

Hi All
Thought I would just give a short update on my nice reconditioned A7.  I have already posted on the forum regarding an oil leak from the timing side case, which is now sorted thanks to help from this forum. I have also mentioned the crankshaft end float  that was discovered while sorting out the oil leak.
a10gf and RichardL seem to have been on the money with their there comments.  The list of jobs just seems to get longer and longer.  I have decided to get the end float sorted and have stripped the engine down to the crankcases.  So have I have found the Cush drive nut has backed off with the lugs locked on the high shoulder,  clutch securing nut to main shaft cross threaded,  cylinder bore glassed, pistons at 60+ and scored.
It’s quite odd though, as the more things I find that need sorting the more I am enjoying the bike.  I have learnt so much in a very short time about BSA twins.  This forum has been a great source of knowledge so far and I will no doubt be asking many question in the next few months.
Thanks Richard.

Hi Richard,
It seems that it is not uncommon  for buyers (poor Sods *ex*) to fall victim to unscrupulous sellers
who offer what I call "shiney shite"   *razz* *razz* *razz*
I have seen too many examples over the years for it to be a coincidence

Well done on getting stuck into the bike and learning about them as you go  *smile*

Yes John it is a shame.  I was buying unseen other than photos so I knew I was taking a risk.  The first clue that the bike may not have been all that I was hoping was when I opened the Zeus faster on the tool box.  The faster had just been spray painted and it was very difficult to open without chipping the paint.  Also when I started taking the engine out, things like the foot rests where only well prepared for painting on the top, underneath was rough and not well done.
I am not to down on the bike as it is all there and I have receipts for lots of good quality new parts as well.
I would probably have got the bike anyway, it’s just I like people to be up front with me.
Richard
