A10 Paint time.

Hi everyone.
Its amost paint time for my 1960 A10

Original colour was blue but im passionate about red! So im trying to decide, i think my model was only blue and red was for the super flash versions only??? Anyone have any opinions as i was trying for an original resto but red looks so good!

Also side stands will the indian stand that clamps on fit the original welded lug on the frame

Unless you want to win prizes for most original bike  I would paint it the colour you like most, I went for black, but my bike was gold when it left the factory (according to the despatch record).

I guess most bikes will have changed colour several times by now.

I left the underneath of a fork yolk in the original gold, just to confuse a future owner

Double up on what the other two have said.

It is your bike & no matter what colour you paint it some walking talking rectum will stride over and in the loudest possible voice tell you the colour is wrong .
So find a colour red that knocks YOUR socks off so every time yo see it you go WOW I LIKE THAT BIKE
And because you have just painted it in a colour that makes you feel fab every time you catch your reflection in a shop window, you do not want the tank all dented & scratched

i need a bike with bright white and florescent yellow paint as i live in lawless london. i mixed both colours together and got gold.

I had mine repainted in the exact shade of maroon that it was when I rode it around as a kid. I wanted it how it was, except now working. Don't care what people say, don't care even if that reduced its value to zero - it's mine and I love it.

 My 1960 A10 was originally "Nutley blue" according to the logbook. I'm sure that's the same blue as per the picture on the Haynes manual, nice in 1960, but now...yuk.

I will soon be painting my side panels and tank blue, but rest assured it won't be the same blue as per 1960! As previous posts have said it's my bike and I have to ride it. So I am going to paint it a more modern blue i.e. a shade that I like. I always ignore the Rivet counters, they usually drive cars anyway...haha..

BTW I have had 2 Indian side stands break! Now have a Burton Bike bits one. Expensive but worth it.

I gave up trying to find a colour match for my 62 super rocket and painted it black it was red but not the origional

Have a look at that beautiful ruby red pearl used on the A50.

Thanks for the recommendation as I would like a quality side stand. Looks like they're also called British Bike Bits.

And no two "original perfect colours" are the same less they were painted by the same person .

I also have the Burton Bike Bits sidestand - provided by a cross channel ferry company insurer after my previous one failed when the bike was strapped down.

The new stand required fettling to fit, like so many parts, but it is solid.

Unless the bike still has its original finish it really doesn't matter what colour you paint it. Someone can go over it again later on wit a near original colour if they want to. I went for a match to the original but mine was red :)
