Wouldn't it be easier to grind by eye and check squareness with the head of a bolt and some engineer's blue?

Well, RD, It doesn't sound like you're saying this is WORSE than your idea. This took me about 15 minutes to setup while extending my lunch break (while working from home). Didn't spend a new dime on it, nor need to leave the  garage to access any parts. That said, I DID ask for thoughts and appreciate your input. I might try the blue in conjunction with this.

Was just thinking of simplicity, Richard. The jig you devised will certainly help keep things square. Only improvement I'd make is a locknut on the threaded rod where it enters the grinder, otherwise it's great. Don't forget to move that car out before grinding!

Well, two weeks after fracturing the frame, it looks like I'm ready to start putting some pieces in it again.

Repair of the powder coat was sanding and featthering the damaged piwder coat areas, brushing on about four coats of high-fill primer, sanding and feathering the primer, then, three coats of gloss black appliance "epoxy" (they call it epoxy, but I'm not sure how that works without two parts). Not perfect, but more than good eoungh for tubes at the bottom of the bike destined for coverage in road grime, at least part of their lives.
