Britax rear crash bar foot rest

Has anyone got Britax rear crash bars fitted to their bike? I have a set that I wish to fit, however I am puzzled by the taper on the crash bar fitting end of the foot rest. Does anyone know why it is there? Maybe I am missing a spacer or something? I would have thought that instead of that taper it should be a flat end to enable it to locate positively against the crash bar. Any ideas?

it is bad engineering to have something like a crash bar fixing that takes force on impact with a thread ending at 90 degrees and maybe it should fit into something the same?

berger, yes, clearly something fits there, the problem is I have no idea what. I was hoping someone might have a Britax rear crash bar fitted to their A10 who might be able to tell me exactly what it is and what the dimensions might be.
