A7 Magneto problem in the rain

Hi,
 I use my A7 for work everyday and yesterday it had to sit in the rain.The water has a habit of running down the spark plug lead and into the pickup.I had to bump it to start and its still drying out now.How do lot seal your pick ups/mag from the ingress of water.As an aside does anyone know a good place(cheap!) to buy pick up brushes as mine fell into the mag as I took it out to dry it off(I know how lucky can one man be),I am using the brush from the end cap but suspect its too hard for the slip ring.I would normally use Independant Ignition but charging £3 plus for posting is taking the p**s.

a dod of silicone sealant should do the trick

Yessss have used silicone too but make sure grease oil is removed first, clean with a little cellulose or similar. Don't forget the advance retard as well if you have a manual. It's not a bad idea to place a plastic bag over the magneto if your leaving the bike outdoors with rain on the way.

My project came with black plastic shroud type covers that slip over the pickup, not sure how waterproof they are though.
Other thoughts from an overfertile mind would be heatshrink ( one use only though ) and a not too elegant use of small cable tie put on about a couple of inch above the pickup and leave a bit of the end for rain to drip off (if anyone complains pretend it's a six day event mod  ).
Silicon is probably the most sensible way to go

Yep I was thinking along the heatshrink idea(they have some where I work so free-yay) and we have some grease on site called vacuum grease, its very thick and is a silicon based grease. I was thinking of popping some grease around the acorn nut,heatshrink over the top and then the rubber boot ovet that,overkill? who cares I don't need to dismantle this often(well I do at the moment but thats to get the water out *conf*

Actually, I think it's dielectric grease you want.

Dielectric grease would be nice but we have loads of vac grease at work and its free,what better reason can there be ;)

Those little rubber johnny things which push over the HT and pick up body work very well. you can gob some silicone under to be sure, then slide them down.

Right just hopefully sorted it out.Found the rubber boots fitted to NGK hard plastic plug caps fit reeeaaallllyyy tight over the pickups perfect fit.I have direct terminal fittings for the plugs so I have heat shrinked those for extra weather proofing and see how we go.
