which tank cap
« on: 22.09. 2009 22:22 »
Hi chaps,
Did some/all Spitfire scramblers have butterfly petrol caps? I have what I thought was a 2 1/2 Gallon Spitfire tank that I wanted to fit a butterfly cap to but the filler hole appears too small and has no hinge piece or breather tube, educate me please.
Cheers Spyke.

My '57 Spit has a screw-on cap, and I don't see in any of the subsequent BSA Spitfire sales lit here that there was a butterfly cap.
The '62 "Gold Star Twin" had a "quick action racing filler cap with vent", per BSA's US sales lit.

Darn shame that the Spitfire didn't have the UK sales promotion that we did here in America.
