Not sure if you have fixed the problem since posting, but is it timed to fire in line with the stroke? and on which cylinder? i always time mine on the offside cylinder at 11/32 Before top dead centre. Check if its on compression stroke or exhaust stroke. hope this helps.

She runs!! I stripped the carb again. Bought an ultrasonic cleaner, separated the jet block from the carb body, and gave everything a thorough cleaning. Oh what Joy to hear her sing!! Took it for a gentle ride around the block. The gears select nicely at those speeds. Brakes are absolutely abysmal!

Occasional backfire through the carb, but idles well. I’m a happy BSA owner.

Thanks for all the help. This forum is a phenomenal resource!
Grew up in the UK, had a ‘72 Tiger TR6P there. Various metric bikes, then a ‘75 CB550F I just finished. Now back to my roots with a recently acquired 1951 Sprung Frame Golden Flash, complete, but not running

The fact that the brakes are abysmal shows that they’re functioning entirely as they were designed to.
Congrats and enjoy.

"Abysmal" is relative. What are you comparing it to? My A7 has the even smaller 7" brake with the pressed steel backplate and it's not bad at all.

Excellent news, the brakes can probably be improved there is lots of advice on here, I have found that it’s easier to get improvement on front brakes than rears.
