So, the '47 A7 was the first bolt on to the crankcase transmission approach. Later abandoned.  The attached drawing makes it look like a standard 6 bolt transmission, loose roller bearings like the ones on my old Triumphs and Matchless'.  Except for the double chain, (which I'm prepared to switch to a single) and the odd split ring supported backing plate. Getting an original will be tricky.  So, despite my vow to keep it original, has anyone  any experience or ideas where a more faithful unit may be gotten?

Not hard to find the parts - there's a complete clutch on ebay right now for £55

Yes, the GBP55 clutch.   From a guy north of Leeds, I recall.   He will only sell to anyone who comes to his door.  A problem if you live in N. Carolina.   My London friend does my Ebay.uk shopping for me but that's a bit much for me to ask him to do.  If you're in that part of the country . . . .
I'll keep looking.

Stick with the standard clutch. Keep looking; they will turn up.

G'day Brandis.
I agree with orabanda. The semi-unit clutch is worlds better than the s/a variant.
I just picked up a NOS 67-3237 center.
Cheers
