Oil leak/deposits behind Carb
« on: 17.08. 2022 09:46 »
Just returned from a trip to France on my 1955 A7 Shooter. No issues except for oil incontinence.
There seems to be large deposits of oil coverage on the Carb drip tray, battery straps, mud guard and the lower area’s, which in the recent hot weather drips all over the place. Also oil drips from the bottom of the Carb body.
I’ve check all of the usual leak area’s, like the banjo’s etc. and they all seem OK. I’ve even extended the vent pipe from the oil tank.

Any ideas guy’s?

G'day Terry.
I agree with SHM. Head gasket or rear of rockerbox.
Cheers

Thanks Guy’s, I suspected that it might be the head gasket and I have had trouble with the domed hex nuts on the rocker box coming loose/disappeared. I think I might try fixing a white piece of cardboard be between the Carb and the Battery and take it for a blast up the road. It may show signs of the leak.

Anyway, many thanks for your input

Hi Guy’s definitely the head gasket, local to the valve chamber. So back into the workshop she goes. Many thanks all👍

If your taking head off, might be worth trying a carbon fiber gasket, since changing never had an issue. Banjos and rocker cover cover can make it look like the head gaskets the culprit
