Super Flash bottom engine mount stud size
« on: 11.10. 2022 07:41 »
The hole in the crankcase for the bottom engine mount stud is 7/16”. The holes in the frame are 9/16” with sleeves to reduce it to 7/16”. All literature that I have seen indicate that this stud should be 3/8”. Has it been messed with or is the Super Flash different?

Hi Thomas, just unsuccessfully attempting to trial fit engine into frame, that bottom stud is very tight and the top gearbox mount doesn’t want to line up. Just read more about installation procedure and will have another go tomorrow. Pics will follow.

I’t doesn’t look to have a gear box top mount, might be the camera angle.
You can come over to see what I have if you want.

Oohh that’s a problem, is the frame paint or powder coat, because I recon some frame remedy will be needed.
My S/F frame was pretty bad (see 53 Superflash resto) it may well have been cartwheeled at speed into an vintage locomotive at good steam.
So always do a dry build of everything.
I practiced fitting the empty engine/gearbox and left generator mount quite a few times prior to any painting, also fitted everything and only then had an exhaust system built, as the left down pipe has to literally thread a needle.
In short not an easy Bike to build by any stretch of the imagination.
Best of luck, and if you want you are welcome to see mine for a visual check of fit up.

Thanks for the offer Thomas. I got onto Steve Martin, Bob Martins son who has all of Bobs frame alignment  gear and the specs for the Super Flash frame. He will check it out for me and rectify the problem as long as I’m not in a hurry. Happy to wait and get it done properly. Frame is painted but may need to be redone, all part of the fun 😩

Hi Mark, you got my attention with your reference to Bob Martin, he straightened my 1956 GF frame many years ago when I lived in Geelong. I now live in The Dandenongs and was looking for him to share with a mate who had a frame issue, but found that Bob had retired to Tasmania, I didn't realise that his son had continued the business here. Is he local? Bob used to work out of Ferntree Gully, can you share his details please?? cheers...
