Rocker box oil feed banjo bolt
« on: 31.01. 2023 17:35 »
Now I have started the engine on my my newly built A10 GF I am starting to find the problems.

I have an oil leak from the front banjo bolt on the rocker box oil feed.  I tightened it up and to my horror the thread stripped.

I know the correct repair is to remove the rocker box and get it helicoiled but I am reluctant to disturb the cylinder head.  There seems to be plenty of good thread left when I screw the banjo bolt in without the banjo.  Can I get longer bolt (65-0317) and if I can, would this do any harm to the oil feed?

Are you sure the thread stripped? If the other end of the rocker spindle is not tight enough you might experience the spindle rotating which might feel like a stripped thread.

Good point. I will see if it is the spindle tomorrow, it would be a great relief if it was.  The bolt does seem loose in the thread compared to the rear one. That’s why I jumped to the conclusion that it was stripped.

The bolts are fine.

Sadly I checked out the possibility of the spindle rotating and clearly it is not.

If you are any good on a lathe you could make a new bolt a little bit longer but I think you would be better off taking the rocker box off and replacing the spindle, at least thats what I would do personally. They dont take long to change the only pain in the backside is taking the rocker box on and off although you could try doing it with the rocker box on but that would be very difficult and fiddly.
