Rocket vs Super Rocket…
« on: 25.03. 2023 17:24 »
What is the difference between a “Rocket” and a “Super Rocket”. I glanced at the serial number yesterday and noticed it had an ‘R’ in it. I was always under the impression that my’60 A10 was a “Super Rocket”. Should it have ‘SR’ in the serial number? It doesn’t make a lot of difference to me, just curious…

A 1960 Super Rocket would have prefix DA10R. The prefix CA10SR and DA10SR was used for the A10 Spitfire Scramblers (SR = Scrambles Rocket?)

Okay thanks. My serial number prefix is DA10R, so it is indeed a “Super Rocket”…

If the number began CA10R then it would be a Road Rocket which preceded the Super Rocket

HC  means  High Cam, 367 Cam is used. HHC is High Cam and Hight compression 9:1 Piston is also used.

cheers Klaus

So was hhc mainly reserved for RGS or did the super rocket have the hhc too?

No. HHC is seen on some Road Rockets, all the Spitfire scramblers, and some CA10 and DA10 Super Rocket engines.

My 1958 Super Rocket has a CA10R engine number. Confirmed by BSA Register as a Super Rocket with original engine and frame exported to New Jersey in 58.

G'day Fellas.
The HC or HHC isnot part of the engine number. It's stamped some ways under. With bikes 60+ years old it's like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you've got till you look inside  *whistle*

My Super Rocket does indeed have “HHC” stamped under the serial number. Looks like it got all the factory upgrades. Good to know….

Thank you all for the replies and info…

All of the Road Rockets that I have seen have CA10RR prefix.
