Pick ups & slipring fail
« on: 24.05. 2023 10:25 »
a closer up of the k2f slip ring carnage showing the brass section having fallen out and various plastic shards in an oily suspension. i'm resisting the urge to glue it back in  *eek*. no idea how it ran on one cylinder.

The brass bit must be part of the armature - doesn't look like a slip ring.

You need a new slip ring. If the brass segment is out then the rest of the slip ring must be shattered.

pretty sure the brass section was slip ring - there's a large gap where it used to be located. the many plastic shards are from the dislodged brass section grinding away at the plastic/melamine. the oil obviously speaks to other failings. my suggestion to glue in back in was not serious. time for a proper rebuild - i put it on the courier this morning.

not surprisingly, the bike died suddenly. but i am surprised I could restart the bike (sounded like on one cylinder) and ride it 3km to a mates garage.

Mike is the slip ring you have made of a pink coloured plastic ? If it is I had one go the same way about 10 years ago, best to get your magneto overhauled.

it was a white colour Brian. I'm told they are rubbish and now believe that. its been sent off for a total rebuild.
I had considered a BT-H replacement instead but chose the rebuild for the lesser money and the trainspotter value of old tech. and also i'm starting to wonder how long there will be guys around capable of doing these rebuilds, so do it while i can and it should outlast me.
