1953 BSA A10 small journal size
« on: 04.06. 2023 09:32 »
I have pulled my 1953 A10 engine down to inspect damage to crankshaft , one damaged connecting rod needs replacing  , bearing shells no white metal remaining  but crankshaft looks not bad considering.
the measurements that i have come up with are timing side 1.447 and drive side 1.443 .
What undersize does this equate to for regrind?

G'day Adtrac.
-20 is your next grind. Your SJ figures are on the left.

No doubt a new machine is diverting GB from his established role.  The reason for any damage to the journals is more likely to be a consequence of neglect and must be resolved otherwise the same thing happens again.

Here's one I made earlier.... A classic failure in every sense.

The reason for the need for crank grinding is  the engine had been run without oil with a broken oil line , long story happen3d 30 odd years ago at least

G'day Adtrac.
What measurement is the timing side maim journal? It may need doing and a new bush to suit.
Make sure the grinder knows the radii for the sides of the journals. The most common cause of crank failure.

Certainly needs new bush as it has eroded away  leaving deep pits but the journal is nice and smooth , the size of the journal is 1.367 inches
