Magneto bolt
« on: 09.12. 2024 12:35 »
Hi All
Does anybody know if this pictured is the bottom magneto fixing.  And if it is , is it the proper one or a work around ?
Thanks Kevin

Looks wrong.  Should be 67-1259 which is actually a long nut to fit on a stud.  Easy to get £3.95 from various places.

So it's definitely a magneto fixing , can't see where else it would go ?

99% sure it is. Mag has a triangular flange with 3 equally spaced studs so if this matches the 3rd point of the triangle with the 2 you can see that confirms it.  Possible its a bolt into the thread where the stud should go. Better to get the stud - 1/4 BSW one end and 1/4 BSC the other. Saves wear on the thread into the ally case.  You wont know what you have until you undo it.

Looks home made or an original one which has been shortened. If you buy a new one beware of pattern items which are difficult to fit because the the flange is too wide; this prevents the  nut guiding itself onto the stud. It is an easy fix, just skim down on a lathe.

Interesting, just did an images search on 76-1259 and lots of the "new" ones have a hex at the nut end.  Looks like they make them out of hex stock and don't bother turning the end down. Annoying.

Yes, they are the ones I mean. It is important to skim them down so they are the same as the original profile.

Hi All,
The long bolt/nut is threaded 5/16 x 26
The stud in the case is 5/16 whit into the alloy and the outer end is 5/16 x26
