Hi everybody, just joining today.

Just bought a cafe racer A7, reg 1972 but from what I can see frame is 1960 and engine 1959. Hope we can get to the bottom of that later?

For some reason this is the first large beeza I’ve owned, had a 54 D1 in 1968 and a truly horrible C15 in 1971, maybe that bike put me off as it was all AJS, Nortons and Triumphs thereafter, apart from the Hondas and BMW’s I despatched in the late 80’s. Last two bikes about 4 years ago were an fj1200 and an MZ 660 Skorpion… variety is the spice of life🙄

Anyway have loads of questions especially and tweaks to help getting it onto the centre stand without a rocker. It does seem extremely awkward/heavy and I’m sure it’s not just my age…
hopefully!

Thanks for reading this and I’m sure there will be loads more to come! 🤣

G'day Swansong  *welcome*
One thing to remember is there's no such thing as a stupid question, there may be some silly answers!
60 frame with 50 motor isn't anything to worry about. In 60 odd years many things get replaced.
Neither of mine have rocker arms (worn off from exuberant cornering), both are a PITA to get up.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply Muskrat, yes I’m good at silly questions but there usually is an equally silly answer that is invariably true lol. Not worried about the dates, it’s probably conceivable that they were put together when new, there’s only a year between them 59 & 60. It was obviously re-registered  in 72, will probably never know why! Nice to know someone else finds it heavy to get on the stand anyway, just don’t want to make a twit of myself struggling in public, although I usually manage that without the bike! Anyway thanks for the welcome from this side of the world👍

Great to have you on board. This is the most helpful forum of any type I've ever seen! It would be good to see some photos of your bike.

I’ll be taking some more in the next few days, only bought two days ago so it’s all new. As my name says, this is probably my last bike so, whilst it’s pretty good now, I intend to make it as good as it can be… whilst I know bikes seem to be valued these days on originality, this is what we did to them when I was in my teens, so it really hits the spot😊

That looks good Berger, I like it too. I’d be very interested in the grab rail if it would fit mine 😊 thanks for the offer

it fits to the rear mudguard that we don't have . a lot of people use a footrest in the holes next to the rear shock but you need a spacer in there stop the frame crushing.

Thanks Berger, yes a folding handle with as you say a spacer inbetween would work, thanks.

Frame is probably 1954/5 looking at the centre stand and wheels.
