Petrol tank dent repair

I need a gas tank for my 1962 BSA A10, found this one within my price range, just want to see if the dent is repairable without the need to cut and weld before making the purchase.

Will get it re-chromed at a later date

my tank was damaged like that (fork leg hit) and I managed to find an old guy who beat it out through the filler hole, then metal finished it ready for chrome - hard to find those guys these days though

I don't know about where you are but getting any chroming done is becoming a problem here. Our last reputable outfit ceased trading recently then reformed but they are not interested in petrol tanks, too much bother, to say nothing of the cost. To get a repair done like that dent knocked, de-chromed, copper plated, re-polished re-chromed and re-painted/ hand lined to factory finish would be well in excess of $2000 AUD. No wonder people are turning to the offerings from India...

Chroming has become a nightmare. Either poor quality or expensive - sometimes both.
For my last couple of tanks I've sprayed the sides silver with the centre my colour of choice (latest is Firestorm red). Two pack followed by clear coat.

What paint did you use for the "chrome"? How good was the result (i.e. how like genuine chrome did it look)?

I've seen tanks on a couple of bikes done to a similar standard here (where chroming is also getting difficult), by people who have the skills and the kit. (Not DIY jobs.) The finish on the wheel in the video seems pretty much what I've seen.
Not cheap but then no good paint job is cheap, here or anywhere else. Many hundreds of any currency for a top job, especially with panels or lining.

that crease will be difficult to get out I would get an estimate from a PDR guy [ paintless dent removal] there was a person here that did repair tanks but around $2000.00 finished  he would cut the bottom out of the tanks re finish the metal weld it up etc .
if your going to chrome plate it any imperfections will stand out if your going to paint it you can do a perfect job with some filler and maybe a stud welder to pull the dent but you need to know how to pull the dent .
A coat of paint hide many sins .
