What’s this frame tab?

There’s a tab on the left side of the frame between tank and seat, what is its function please?
1963 BVSR GA7 frame.

It’s to hold the tire/tyre pump at the handle end that originally came with the bike!

I recently got a frame with it broken off and going to smooth it over before painting

If you look carefully at the picture you can just make out a tire/tyre pump

Thanks, that would make sense. Hadn't seen one before. Ahah, I've just seen the lower tab.
A pump would need to be just under 12" or 30cm compressed.
