Con Rods
« on: 08.10. 2025 08:38 »
Just finished fitting the crankshaft into the 2026 project engine. I have used con-rods supplied by Thunder Engineering. What a superb piece of kit they are. The only issue is that they are wider than the standard rods so it is necessary to grind a bit out of the slot in the barrels to accommodate them. Otherwise they are superb. A distinct advantage is that they don't have small end bushes so no reaming required. The bolts are threaded directly into the rods and the caps fit onto sleeves which are a tight fit in the bolt holes. All very snug and reassuring. The bolts are torqued up to 42ft/lb. Fab!

Thunder made me a pair for my latest vee. Same as T140 but 1/4" longer and only 1" wide at BE. Very well made and great value, but my query - as with the ones I used previously in my GF - is why do they use fine threads (UNF I believe) into alloy?

+ another 1 for that.
Have fitted two sets so far, with a third pair sitting waiting to be used. Things of great beauty.
Also, great folk to deal with on the 'phone.
Just need a good quality suitably slim bi-hex AF socket for the bolt heads.

Why those threads? Dunno RD - but I'm sure they're not a problem.
