HD base gasket
« on: 21.11. 2025 18:23 »
G'day Fellas.
I was prepping the HD for a 500 mile ride this w/end. The Clubs Memorial ride. Checked all the fluids, tyres, brakes, electrics and gave her a wash (don't know why as it's going to rain all the way  *sad2*). I noticed little piece of gasket sticking out of the front cylinder/crankcase joint. Bugga  *pull hair out*. I'll take her anyway, the rain will hide any leak  *whistle*.
I haven't had to open her motor yet so it's a top end job for Xmas.
Cheers

Somehow, I read that as “HD Basket Case” and, after reading, thought, “Is Muskie losing it?” Apparently, I may be the it loser.

G'day Richard.
I do the same and have to read things twice  ;)
She made it the whole way and didn't get any worse. The oldest bike out of the 30 that went sitting on 120KPH with sprints of 160KPH. Rained half way there and half way home. Burnt a hole in the right leg of my wet weather pants on the exhaust pipe.
It'll have to wait in line till I finish the two mates bikes on the lifts. The poor old Cafe is patiently waiting for attention.
Cheers

why bother Musky? appears to be running so intact where it matters. unless its leaking, just trim the edge. sounds like more efforts than cleaning for similar outcome.

G'day Mike.
It's just a very slight weep so I'll leave it be till it hemorrhages.
A good mate turned up last night with his Kumansukme Z800 for a service. Then the other mates HD Fatboy's leaky inlet manifold and the XV750 jets to do. I need a bigger shed and 24 hour days.
Cheers
