Well, 2026 had promise, but that was 6 hours ago.
Driving home just after midnight celebrations with friends, I was alarmed to see a ribbon of fire in the Darling Ranges which appeared to be close to our suburb. The closer to home we got the more threatening the firestorm looked.

We got home at 1 am; it took us 15 minutes to throw some clothes and other critical items in the cars, and flee.

Our road is now closed off, and the fire is spreading through the properties.

Pics attached were taken from the front of the house just before we left.

My 55 years of motorcycling might have come to a premature end.

Fire & Emergency Services have not been able to provide fresh info for the last hour.

Happy New Year?

Most importantly, we and the dog are safe.

Haven't slept in 24 hours; thank god for Blend 43.

Richard

Update: our house and property are fine; twas a close call.
Huge thanks to the volunteer fire brigades; there were close to 30 fire tenders from throughout WA who saved the day.

Richard, that was close, would be a big loss to loose your place, not just for you but for all of us.
Good to hear all is safe now.

Phew, glad your place survived it Richard. That must have been an awful feeling packing up and leaving but a good decision I would say. So many tempted to stay and defend end up paying the ultimate price  *sad2*.

Maybe this means 2026 will be good for you at least, sorry for anyone not as lucky as your good selves.

Hey Richard,
Ich hoffe das das Feuer für alle so glimpflich ausgegangen ist wie für dich und nicht soviel Natur und Tiere zuschaden gekommen sind.
Beste Wünsche für euch...GrußJens

Ooooh that was too close for comfort mate. Good it didn't hit ya. Went through my place in '83, roots were still burning underground for a week afterwards!
